In 2007, Derek qualified with a Certificate in Building Energy Rating. He was among the first in Ireland to be approved by Sustainable Energy Ireland as a Building Energy Rating Assessor for Home Energy Ratings.
Derek is Director and Chairman of the Cavan Monaghan Rural Development Co-op Ltd. which delivers the European Rural Leader Programme. He is also a Director of Cavan Chamber of Commerce and holds a seat on the Social and Environmental committee of the Semi-State forestry company “Coillte”.
