Have you though about water efficiency in your house, do you think its time to come up with a plan of action. I have had a look at the usual water-saving websites and come up with a series of things you can do, roughly in order of difficulty.
1. Find out total water use for 2007, so we can tell when we’ve actually made a significant change.
2. Check for leaks and fix them.
3. Check how we use water: this means going down the lists of water-efficiency steps like shorter showers, only running the washing-machine on full, etc and making sure that we actually do them.
4. Get flow aerators or something similar for our taps.
5. Get a shower-head with a water-efficiency rating.
6. Change your toilet to a dual-flush.
7. See if it’s worth upgrading your washing-machine to a more efficient model or not.
8. Make the garden more water-efficient, look into rainwater tanks, greywater systems and so on.

CO2.ie launched 1 month ago and have been getting great interest from Irish people researching Green products & services online such as low co2, low vrt emission cars.
We are aiming to restrict advertising to genuine Green businesses and avoid the situation called ‘Advertising Greenwash‘ in this Guardian article today.
Please let us know if our future advertisers fail to deliver on the Green promises which CO2.ie must take at face value.

The Greenbox is a completely unique region and is a natural location for Ireland’s first ecotourism destination. It boasts unique ecosystems, an unspoiled landscape, centres of learning such as The Organic Centre, a Geo Park (Marble Arch Caves,Co Fermanagh) and off shore islands of high conservation value such as Inishmurray Island in Donegal Bay.
The geographic area is surrounded by water on all sides by the Shannon Erne Waterway, Lough Erne and The Atlantic Ocean. The region, which was once overshadowed by conflict, is now one of the most peaceful places in Ireland and nine years on from a peace agreement (The Belfast Agreement) the destination is in an ideal position to welcome tourists to visit. Microsoft has claimed its new Windows Server 2008 has the potential to dramatically cut CO2 emissions.
The company said that through increased efficiency and a new technology called virtualisation, companies could reduce the number of computer servers they use by having multiple servers in one server box.
Bill O’Brien, business manager with Microsoft Ireland, claimed that upgrading every server in Ireland to the product would cut over two million tonnes of CO2 every year.

Green issues are very much in the news at the moment. Times have changed and attention to use of energy and consumption of raw materials is no longer the preserve of environmentalists and radicals. In many European countries, government policy continues to be shaped by the green agenda, a trend which has now reached Ireland with the recent election of two Green Party TDs to the Cabinet.
With energy prices rising and more stringent restrictions on manufacturing and waste disposal, it is clear that Irish business will need to adapt to this new environment. But where there is change there is also opportunity.
