co2.ie power of one

Here is a little info from the Irish government’s web site for saving energy - PowerofOne.ie >>

“It’s easy to become overwhelmed when we look at “The Big Picture”. Global warming, climate change and fuel shortages can make us all feel powerless. They’re pretty big threats, and it’s understandable if our knee-jerk response is: “But What Can I Do?”.

The answer, actually, is “Quite A Lot”.

That’s where the idea of the power of one comes in. If each of us becomes aware of our own power when it comes to energy efficiency, and uses it properly, we can collectively make a big difference. To ourselves, to our pockets, and to the environment. By taking individual responsibility and changing our behaviour in small ways every day, we’ll help save energy while we save money too.

All we have to do is recognise our power, and use it. It’s what the power of one is all about.”

Their Energy Saving Pack will help you get started saving energy and keeping more money in your pocket. Order your FREE pack >>

Let’s all move to Dundalk

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Environment Minister Eamon Ryan visited Dundalk this week announcing Ireland’s first sustainable energy community. So I’m thinking, let’s all move to Dundalk and save our little green island !

While in Dubdalk, the Minister visited the Sustainable Energy Ireland offices. SEI co-ordinate the Dundalk 20/20 project, which acts as a pilot for the rest of the country. In a 4 km zone in the centre of the town, 20% of all heat and 20% of all electricity must come from renewable sources by 2010. This is ten years ahead of the Government target.

The Minister also officially launched Ireland’s most eco-friendly development of smart homes at Carlinn Hall. This is the first residential development in the Dundalk 20/20 sustainable energy zone. Read more >>

IT industry grows greener

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

The IT industry is going green and Irish businesses could reap the financial benefits.

IT giants such as IBM, Intel and Lenovo are flooding the market with products that conserve energy, cutting down on damage to the environment and the cost of power for firms.

IT goes green
Despite this apparent win-win situation where companies can boost their reputation by going greener while saving money, many firms are still tentative about making the move.

“The main barrier is cost,” explained Neil Brennan, an ICT research analyst with iReach. The research firm published a report in March which revealed that Irish businesses were happy to go green so long as it didn’t cost them too much.

Brennan said the initial investment required in greener IT products was off-putting to some businesses but that in the long run the savings are significant.

Putting our foot in it !

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

A quick word about the CO2.ie logo …

co2.ie logo

The CO2.ie logo links our simple web address and a green human foot as CO2.ie is about promoting ways to reduce our personal carbon footprints. A carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted over a person’s full life cycle.

On earth, we have been putting our foot in it for sure and our feet have been heavy with carbon ! Our soft green logo is meant to symbolise our efforts as a web business to minimise our carbon footprint and we hope you join us in our crusade !
